Driver Restraint System Fault E60

  1. Bmw Restraint System Malfunction Battery

I got this warning last Friday. The full warning message appearing in the iDrive was Fault in pass.-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter.

Fasten and continue to wear belts. Please contact the nearest BMW center.

This was followed by a Transmission Fail Safe warning message. At the same time, my wipers turned on and didn't respond to the wiper control. I finally got them to stop by turning off the car. Unfortuntately they're in the upgright position. I called my service advisor and explained to him the situation. It was late that evening and he didn't have a loaner for me so I told him I'd bring the car by the first thing Monday morning. All of a sudden, I got into my 745 li 2002, and the light came up saying that airbag fault, something with the belt tensioner, it says continue wearing seatbelts and bring it to the nearest BMW service center. Its funny I just came out of the service for an oil change and other things 2 days ago, and then this happened.Does anyone know what the cause of this was and why it happened.thanksI got same problem yesterday.

I am getting bit frustrated with my 7er because this is another problem after problem in 3 months. Nothing really sooo serious, but keeps bothering me. Had Hyundai XG before and never so many problems. Well we will see.

9763 is the occupancy sensor mat. I bought an occupancy sensor bypass off of Ebay for the passenger side mat that was throwing the code. I was able to connect it and clear the code. Then my driver's side went out and I couldn't clear it using the same bypass module. So i took it to a mechanic and he told me it was an open circuit (9674) and 9763 (occupancy mat). I was going crazy because I thought that it was just my INPA configuration or OBD II USB cable that wouldn't clear the code (kept getting ecu error).

The mechanic told me it was a wire short circuit under the seat somewhere. It must have happened putting in the subwoofers when I had the seat slightly removed. I didn't care to dig through all the harnesses and take the seat out the find the issue, so I just programmed both seats to be turned off using NCSExpert in ECUs SSFA and SSBF.FOR SSFAFrom:BELEGUNGSERKENNEUNGFAsbe1TO:BELEGUNGSERKENNEUNGFAkeinesbeFOR SSBFFROM:BELEGUNGSERKENNEUNGBFoc3To:BELEGUNGSERKENNEUNGBFkeinesbeI also turned the ERKENNUNGSMATTE to nichtaktiv Make sure it codes properly and then clear the codes in INPA and no more airbag light. I was such a happy camper after fighting with the thing for several days. Hello, I have a 202 e65 745i with only 73k on it. 2 days ago the airbag light and the seatbelt light came on with a warning on the idrive that said passenger restraint system failure. I have family that is BMW certified in another state, gave a call and they said check for recalls.

BMW NA did issue the recall bulletin as listed in another users post. After review of the bulletin my year is not on the list. I called BMW NA directly and they said my year is not on the list also. Now my car has 73k on it. That's very low mileage for a 2002 and there are not really many passengers in the car so for here to be an issue on the passenger side system is odd. Especially when its the passenger side of the car that all the recalls are issued for. Just called 1 888 327 4236 that's the national safety commission complaint line.

Spoke with a very nice lady that took all my info about what was wrong and the mileage VIN etc. I also asked her how it was that they issued the recalls if it was by part number used or complaints filed.

She basically told me that they issue a recall based on the number of complaints for specific year and model cars and that it may very well be that I have the same faulty part number installed in my car but the fact that there are not enough complaints on the issue for my specific year that they would skip listing my year in the affected models. She also said she was uploading my complaint file to Safercar.gov and that is the place that engineers go to review complaints and make decisions on what cars get recalled. If you have any other year BMW that is affected with the passenger side restraint system warning on idrive that would also have your seatbelt light on and airbag light on go to the website or call the number and file a complaint. She said the more complaints they get the more likely they are to issue a recall.

Thanks hopefully with enough complaints we can get this serious safety issue in our cars fixed by the dealer like they should be doing anyways.safercar.gov1 888 327 4236 National safety hotline. Just popped up today and mine is a 2005. 9763 is the occupancy sensor mat. I bought an occupancy sensor bypass off of Ebay for the passenger side mat that was throwing the code. I was such a happy camper after fighting with the thing for several days.So if I do that, the airbags will work regardless of whether there is a passenger or not during a crash? Following this Thread just in case someone answers. I'm having the same problem and I'm looking for help.

Bmw driver restraint system reset

I took it to the dealership because my primary mechanic couldn't diagnose it. The dealership wants to replace the Airbag Control Module ($1700). They said it was faulty. The total cost for that including labor is $2500+. In my opinion, this error doesn't match what they wanted to replace. I brought up the recall on the passenger sensor and he was adamant that it wasn't the problem. 2008's weren't covered by the recall anyway.

I asked him to reset it and he refused. Following this Thread just in case someone answers. I'm having the same problem and I'm looking for help. I have the same problem here. For some reason i cant seem to find BELEGUNGSERKENNEUNGFA and BELEGUNGSERKENNEUNGBF options in both SSBF and SSFA modules in my fswpsw file.what am i doing wrong?Help neededI had the same problem when I tried to code mine. Rather than mess around with it, I just bought a bypass off ebay for $10, and that solved the issue for me.

My battery was recently replaced and I now receive the following error “Restraint system malfunction”. After reading several posts it appears this message is generated when the battery is disconnected. However, after clearing the error code (the code is set to 'OK') the error reappears after a couple of minutes. After further research it appears a 'connector' can get loosened when the battery is replaced. For example: I’m guessing this may be the cause of my problem. Can anyone tell me which connectors might get loosened when the battery is replaced? You will need to replace that part, i had the same problem and had to relpace the BST cable. Thanks for the reply - I've read several posts on E90Post about replacing the battery safety terminal cable. For example:Do I have to replace the BST cable or just ensure the connection is set?

Since the battery for the none-M cars looks different do you have a pic of the battery and where the BST cable is connected. Btw, the warning light drives me nuts and I'm unable to clear the error using BMW diagnostic software! Thanks again for the confirmation of the issue. Did you have it coded?I coded the car myself after race seats were installed. After coding my car all seat bag related errors were removed for several weeks until I disconnected my battery: when I disconnected and then reconnected the battery the error occurred. The battery has since been replaced and I coded the car again to register the new battery. The error code seems to point to the 'Battery Safety Terminal' cable and most owners have to replace this cable (based on various posts).

However, I want to verify the cable is properly seated or connected first - I just have no idea where the cable is (it's supposedly connected to the positive connection of the battery). I have same problem, but I don't think this is related to battery in any way:- On Thursday I've vacuum cleaned the car, as well under seats- On Friday that was working normally- On Saturday got error CC-ID 97Till was waiting for 4 weeks for connection cable&software I've checked, there were some possibly not well connected connector under passenger seat, double checked that this is all connected well now.Yesterday got software & interface and cleared out errors. Tested it, drive couple min and all was OK. Today error appear again, and now tested with and without passenger.Test result is:- after error is cleared I can drive without passenger for a while, probably any time and any distance, nothing appear- after error is cleared, if I have passenger error appear after 1 min or after 100 m, but appear for sure.I believe this is detecting something wrong in airbag, or just have this in memory and just disable airbags on passenger side.Note that, after error memory is cleared this still show error saved somewhere else:01 MRS ERRORECUSECURITYACCESSDENIEDSECURITYACCESSR EQUESTEDRegards,Dejan. I'm having the same issue. I replaced my battery and the BST plug popped out. I got the error, realized what it was and plugged it back in.

The error still won't go away however.Did you have to do anything special to reset it? Or should it just go away on its own once the cable is plugged back in?I'm new to programming but have the cable and software set up. I did the battery registration which was successful so if there is something I can check or reset with the coding software I'm all set.Battery registration is not going to fix this error. It will probably stay there until it's cleared. Sometimes when the battery voltage gets low the MRS module gets upset and throws faults. It's possible that it might but in some cases it won't. I reset one remotely for one of my coding clients the other day.

I reset one remotely for one of my coding clients the other day.Yeah, I know the battery registration won't clear this error. Also found that my standard obd2 reader wont' clear the codes either.I guess what I need to know is how one would clear them through INPA or one of the other BMW tools. I've had problems with INPA working completely but I think I've taken care of that so I will see shortly. Can you give me a hint as to the steps to reset this particular code? Would i need to load the MRS module in NCS and run a certain job to clear the codes?

Mine just pop up abruptly during a sharp turn. Code 93b2 is present, so I went in the trunk and from a high level inspection, everything looks fine, but I suspect something is not plugged correctly anymore. Which wire needs to be wiggled exactly?Same thing happened to me after hitting a pothole the other day. I was not able to reset the code the day it happened, then by some miracle, yesterday I was able to clear it using the same bluetooth adapter and BMWhat app, but today the error is back and again won't clear.
