Adopt and Embrace is also committed to giving back to the community, as 1 percent of its annual revenue is donated to youth mental health charity, Batyr. Providing critical services to Australia’s disabled populationCurrently, there are 4.3 million Australians with a disability—accounting for approximately 17 percent of the overall population. Recently, the Australian Government launched the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to provide necessary funding and services to support those suffering from permanent and significant disability—a group that makes up about 10 percent of those 4.3 million people.KEO Physio Group is a specialist physio and occupational therapy provider that deliver services to those with permanent or significant disabilities as well as older patients in need of care.

Experiencing a significant spike in demand following the launch of NDIS, KEO Physio Group knew that they had an opportunity to grow their business while expanding their impact on the lives of thousands of people in need of care. A need for new infrastructureKEO Physio Group knew that it would need to improve its technology infrastructure to keep up with its anticipated growth.

KEO Physio Group’s employees had collaborated primarily via a combination of email (which had not been hosted on Office 365) and face-to-face meetings. The business had been driven by paper-based processes which often necessitated duplicate efforts to copy data into spreadsheets.Employee computers were Apple Macs purchased from the local electronics store and it wasn’t unusual for the team to email attachments back and forth with as many as 10 rounds of revisions. In addition, much of the team operated remotely or onsite with clients, resulting in them not visiting the head office for days or weeks at a time. This could result in delays lodging important paperwork, unnecessary administrative overheard, and difficulty tracking patient requests.Given the work KEO Physio Group does within the community, delays like these could have an impact on some of the most vulnerable people in the area. As an example, one client needed to wait three extra months for a wheelchair because of a simple missed email by a bureaucrat. Building a better workplace to change livesAdopt and Embrace worked with KEO Physio Group to help envision the type of workplace they wanted to create as they moved to the future. The two organizations then worked to implement Microsoft 365 in order to make that vision a reality.Adopt and Embrace helped KEO Physio Group migrate from their externally hosted email, local file storage, and Apple infrastructure while facilitating a shift from paper-based processes—moving KEO Physio Group to Microsoft 365 and equipping their employees with Surface Go devices.

Adopt and Embrace also set up SharePoint Online to help KEO Physio Group store and edit important core documents and coached them on how to use Teams as their new collaboration hub. Realizing immediate resultsClient management has improved ten-fold following the implementation while enabling KEO Physio Group to grow rapidly to keep pace with new opportunities. The shift from paper-based processes has resulted in increased visibility across the team and has allowed the team to build more structured processes. “We just lost three months on the order for a wheelchair for a severely disabled client. The email was sitting with a bureaucrat to be actioned and we hadn’t noticed they were holding it up because it was just one email among hundreds. It’s human error, it happens, but that has a huge impact on someone who can ill afford it.

Microsoft Teams has helped us to streamline our processes and get things moving much faster. And when we can move faster it impacts people’s lives.” —Nigel Tadros, Operations Manager, KEO Physical Group.

Microsoft powers an automated workforce from Actionable ScienceActionable Science and the next AI waveIn 2016, Saurabh Kumar knew the next big wave of artificial intelligence (AI) was coming. Based on this, he cofounded Actionable Science, an AI startup that would make operations significantly more efficient, enabling a more economical model in which humans don’t have to participate in every single transaction. The decision to partner with Microsoft has opened the door for Actionable Science to enable its AI-driven Virtual People within the entire ecosystem of Microsoft products and services. That has led to advantages for the technology—and the business. The AI employee has arrivedKumar thinks about Actionable Science like a staffing agency.

“A company has consultants and employees—and now they will also have virtual employees. In a way, we are in the business of providing that virtual staffing. So, the people we provide need to be able to converse, of course, but also be knowledgeable in their respective areas.”To that end, Actionable Science provides a growing portfolio that currently includes four types of virtual employees—HR assistant, IT Help Desk agent, financial product sales consultant, and customer service agent—to midsize corporations, including banks and credit unions.“AI has the potential to be a great leveler for midsize companies,” says Kumar. “AI and Virtual People can help make a midsize company feel, to the consumer, like a large company.” Growing AI in the Microsoft ecosystemActionable Science works with Microsoft technology in multiple ways. For instance, a customer could tell an IT Help Desk Virtual Person (also called a bot), “I need to change my password.” Actionable Science uses the cognitive services of Microsoft Language Understanding Intelligent Service (LUIS), combined with data the customer has already provided, to understand the customer’s intent. But if the customer says, “I’m logged out of my database account,” that’s different than changing a password, and LUIS understands that.

If the customer is hosted in Office 365, Actionable Science can use its integration with the Microsoft ecosystem to log the customer back into the account through Active Directory services. Microsoft products at the heart of the planThe ubiquity of Microsoft products and services among enterprise customers was a huge selling point for Actionable Science when selecting a partner. Microsoft gives the company access to all the powerful services, resources, products, and technologies it needs to create, operate, and expand for development. For example:. Microsoft Azure—A trusted foundation with a high degree of customer confidence, Azure provides the cloud-based computing platform that’s the backbone of the system. DocumentDB—Because many customers already use DocumentDB for their data and file storage, Actionable Science gains efficiency.

LUIS—LUIS provides what Kumar calls “one of the most interesting of all the cognitive capabilities,” he says. “Our bots can have a deep understanding of a particular kind of interactions and have long-running dialogues about these things.”.

Microsoft Emotion API—This API helps bots interact in a more appropriate manner with customers. Microsoft Vision capabilities—Because many interactions with Virtual People involve documents such as mortgages or HR files, document recognition, processing, and storage are powerful Microsoft capabilities for Actionable Science.Actionable Science also uses Power Platform to provide customer analytics and rich visualizations for better decision making. “Our customers can log in to an admin portal to see how their bots are performing, what’s working, what’s not, and how to fix it,” Kumar says. “Using Power Platform, customers can get analytics, graphs, charts, and dashboards customized for their industry needs.”Partners from the beginningThe Microsoft team has provided extensive support to Actionable Science throughout the development and launch of its products. “Whether it’s technical, support, or business questions, we’ve also had joint conversations with our customers on one side and Microsoft representatives on the other,” Kumar says.Artificial intelligence is still in its infancy, and Actionable Science is working to find where it can be a real business advantage. Working in the Microsoft stack, the company is finding and capitalizing on deeper insights within the natural interactions between Virtual People and real ones.“We’re in the first inning of a long game,” Kumar goes on. “Microsoft is very committed to the space—and we’re just scratching the surface.”.
